Abstract

In Adygea, two important scientists who studied linguistics grew up. One of them was Daud Alievich Ashhamaf who laid the foundations of Circassian linguistics and the other one was the founder of present-day Circassian linguistics, Zajnab Ibragimovna Kerasheva. Kerasheva authoring more than a hundred articles about Circassian language and dozens of books in a wide range from course books for primary schools to the ones for universities achieved the two most difficult and the most important tasks at the same time. One of them was the “Explanatory Dictionary of Circassian” for which she collaborated with Abdul Ahmedivich Hatanov. And the other one was “The Grammar of Circassian Language” she coauthored with Georgij Vissarionovich Rogova.

Therefore the first aim of our research is to introduce the founder of Circassian linguistics, Zajnab Keraheva, to the researchers, students and linguists studying in the field of Circassian language in Turkey. And the second aim of our research is to introduce the declaration which Kerasheva represented in International Colloquim of Caucologists’ held in 1992 in Maykop. Her declaration mentioning the problems of Circassian languages is not outdated yet.

Key words: Circassian Linguistics, Circassian Language, Circassian Grammar, Circassian State University, Tbilisi State University, Zajnab Ibragimovna Kerasheva., Daud Ashhamaf, Arnold Stepanovich Chikobava, Georgij Vissarionovich Rogova
